Aim & Objectives

The Advanced Diploma in Hospitality Management is designed for individuals who aspire to take on leadership roles in the hospitality and tourism industry. This program goes beyond foundational knowledge, focusing on advanced concepts in operations, management, and strategy across various sectors such as hotels, resorts, food and beverage, travel and events. It prepares students to tackle the challenges of a dynamic industry and equips them with the skills to manage teams, deliver exceptional service and enhance guest experiences.

Course Duration: 12 Months

Entry Requirements:

  • Minimum of 17 years of age.
  • Minimally a “C6” grade in the GCE ‘O’ Level Examination English Language or equivalent.
  • Minimally 1 ‘C6’ grade in the GCE ‘O’ Level Examination.
  • Applicants lacking English proficiency must successfully complete the Addison Institute English Proficiency Placement Test before admission.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Exemptions may be granted to students who show proof of prior learning in certain modules. This is subject to verification and approval by the Academic Board.

Program Synopsis

E-Commerce

The objective of this module is to provide students with a solid foundation in Electronic Commerce, highlighting how IT has transformed communication and significantly impacted various aspects of life, including leisure activities. By the end of the module, students will have a clear understanding of the entire e-commerce landscape, including e-business concepts and practices.

HR Management

This module provides students with a solid foundation in Human Resources and Personnel Management concepts and techniques. It equips them with the skills needed to effectively supervise and manage their work as they enter the job market. Students will explore key HR practices such as recruitment, employee development, performance management, and workplace communication. This knowledge will help them lead teams and tackle challenges in a professional environment, promoting a positive workplace culture.

Management Strategies for Hospitality Industry

The objective of this module is to provide students with a comprehensive and rigorous understanding of Strategic Management within the hospitality context. By the end of the module, students will have learned how to analyze, develop, select, and implement the appropriate functional strategies for their organizations, aligning them with the environment to achieve long-term goals and fulfill the organization’s mission.

Project Management

This module introduces students to the concepts and principles of project management, emphasizing the application of skills learned in class to real-world scenarios in the industry. Students will learn to align their functional goals with those of the organization and streamline their efforts to achieve the organization’s overall goals, vision, and mission.

Hotel Operations Management

The objective of this module is to guide students through a departmental study of a full-service hotel, concentrating on two essential questions: What information is necessary about each department, and why is this knowledge important? By the end of the module, students will gain a comprehensive overview of the key areas within the hotel industry.

Hospitality Marketing

This module offers students an understanding of Marketing from a hospitality perspective, organizing marketing activities into three phases: Before, During, and After the customer’s service encounter. By the end of the module, students will have explored key areas such as Marketing Concepts, Post-encounter Marketing, and the development of a Marketing Plan, equipping them with the tools to effectively promote hospitality services.

Meeting, Expositions, Events & conventions (MEEC)

This module aims to give students a solid foundation in Meetings, Expositions, Events, and Conventions (MEEC) to prepare them for the changing needs of the tourism and hospitality industry. Even with the growth of digital communication, face-to-face meetings are still important. By the end of the module, students will learn key concepts, planning processes, and management strategies in the MEEC field. They will also gain skills to coordinate events, from small meetings to large conventions, and manage the related logistical challenges, preparing them for success in an industry where in-person interactions matter.

Service Management

This module addresses issues in the hospitality industry from a Service Management perspective, providing students with a range of management concepts that can be effectively applied to any hospitality operation.

Finance for Non-Financial Managers

The objective of this module is to give students a solid foundation in finance from the perspective of non-financial managers. The knowledge gained will support their career development without delving into the intricate concepts of financial accounting or the detailed procedures of bookkeeping.

Researching & Writing Dissertations for Term Project Paper

The objective of this module is to teach students how to write research and dissertation papers, as they will need to complete a project, extended report, dissertation, or thesis during their studies. By the end of the module, students will have the essential skills required to write essays and reports, as well as create effective presentations.

Assessments and Awards

Each subject will be formally assessed through examinations, assignments, and class participation. Students must attend at least 75% of the classes to qualify for the examinations.

Those who successfully complete all module examinations will be awarded the Addison Institute Diploma in Hospitality Management.

Students granted exemptions for modules under Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) at the time of admission will be required to complete a Term Project in order to graduate.

Intakes are available every month throughout the year, before the start of a new module.
